Worst Science Experiment EVER!

So, today ended an era of the worst science experiment EVER! There is no exaggerating the emphasis on "EVER..." We left a pumpkin under our kitchen table for 10 months. That's right, not 10 days, not 10 weeks, but 10 MONTHS! David was convinced that he would be planting that pumpkin in our yard (those who know where we live will laugh at the picture of that! lol), and we'd have a whole pumpkin patch by this October. I'm not sure, but I guess the idea was that we'd be rich millionaires after kids from all over the city flocked to our tiny yard, picking out their favorite golden-orange pumpkin from our home-grown patch. *wink

Well, needless to say, about a week ago, I noticed one or two spots of mold on the outside of the pumpkin under our table. I begged David, "Now that it's moldy, can we throw away the pumpkin? I'll buy you another pumpkin in 2 months, and we'll see what we do with that one..." Not quite ready to part with his long-standing pumpkin patch dream, David denied my request with the almost-persuasive statement, "The mold will be good for the soil."

Yesterday, I noticed that the mold patch had grown quite a bit, so I took two pictures and emailed them to David (who was not at home preparing the ground for his planting, but instead was at work helping people and making real money [no wonder?]). Convinced by the pictures of the not-so-small mold patch, he finally agreed I could throw it away (although I'm still wondering if his giving-in was due more to my bugging him about it?).

So, today was the big day! All prepared with a garbage bag to move the pumpkin onto, reality hit (hard!) and I quickly realized this was going to be a little bigger and a lot grosser than I had thought... maybe I should leave the rest of the story to your imaginations! I'll end with the tidbit that I disinfected the floor (and my hands) after everything was said and done. And no, I don't have any pictures of today's ordeal - didn't want to go into too much detail! Any picture you have in your mind will do. :)
